Sunsise Safari : There is no better way to start your day than watching the first light spill over the pristine bush of the Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve. This Big 5 reserve offers an intimate and crowd-free alternative to the Kruger, where the wild dictates the morning’s rhythm. Your expedition begins with a 05:30 collection from your overnight accommodation, heading out just as nocturnal predators finish their nightly patrols. With the combined expertise of a qualified Bushbaby Tours and Transfers guide and a tracker, you’ll navigate the reserve in search of elephant, rhino, and the elusive cheetah. As the sun begins its ascent, we’ll find a scenic spot to pause for traditional bush coffee, tea, and rusks, a moment of pure stillness to soak in the atmosphere before continuing our exploration. With limited vehicles allowed on the property, you are guaranteed a serene and high-quality wildlife encounter before being transferred safely back to your accommodation.

Sunset Safari: Experience the African bush as it transitions from day to night on an exclusive afternoon expedition through the 12,500-hectare Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve. Your journey begins with a collection from your overnight accommodation, heading into the wild during the “Golden Hour” when the light is perfect for photography and the bush begins to stir with renewed energy. Under the expert guidance of a professional Bushbaby Tours and Transfers guide and a tracker, you’ll navigate this Big 5 territory in search of lion, rhino, and the reserve’s resident cheetahs and perhaps even a leopard or a brown hyena. As the sun begins to dip behind the majestic Drakensberg mountains, we’ll pause at a scenic spot overlooking a dam for the highlight of the afternoon: traditional sundowner drinks and snacks. It is a moment of pure magic to toast the end of the day while soaking in the sounds of the hippos and the bush before we continue our drive into the early evening, using spotlights to search for elusive nocturnal creatures on our way back to your accommodation.

WeatherPlease note that in order to protect the pristine ecosystem of the Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve, safaris can be cancelled at very short notice if it has rained significantly prior to the safari or overnight. We will inform you if this is the case. Please refer to our Booking Terms and Conditions.

What to Wear1) Even in winter, temperatures can exceed 30 degrees Celcius so we recommend comfortable cool clothing. 2) No need to purchase special neutral-coloured clothing - a normal tshirt and shorts or jeans in winter are appropriate for a safari 3) We recommend that you have closed shoes or sneakers for climbing in and out of the open safari vehicle but as it does get really hot, flip flops or sandals can also work. 4) Please bring a windbreaker/ jacket no matter the season as the OSV can be windy and chilly in the early mornings and evenings. In winter, a scarf and beanie are definately worth bringing. 5) we also recommend a tight-fitting hat or cap and sunglasses.

InclusionsCollection and drop-off from overnight accommodation, 3-hour guided game drive in an open safari vehicle, professional guide and tracker team, conservation and gate entry fees, cold bottled water in vehicle, for sunrise safaris: morning bush coffee, tea and traditional rusks, for sunset safaris: drinks and light snacks.

Notes

1) This is a Big 5 reserve and for the safety and comfort of all guests, families with children under the age of 2 are required to book a Private Safari option.
2) Please note that we will collect you from your overnight accommodation and transfer you to the entrance gate at the Blue Canyon Private Game Reserve. Here you will meet your guide and alight the open safari vehicle as you enter the reserve.
3) Unlike the National Park, original Passports or IDs are not required for entry into this private reserve. Make sure you have your ID or passport number handy for the reserve’s indemnity form.
4) For Sunrise Safaris, please check if your lodge provides a packed breakfast or inform them that you will be returning after 09:00 for breakfast.
5) All conservation and gate entry fees for Blue Canyon are included in your tour price.
6) Cash is recommended if you wish to offer a gratuity to your guide and tracker team.
